Preliminary planning for a lighting product that appeals to homes. Houseplants was discussed as a method to appeal to demographic

Light Testing – Uplight on Plant – 2019

Using components purchased online we did some preliminary light testing in North Vancouver. Many unanswered questions with electrical and our capabilities to create this with rapid prototyping. We researched a location on Hastings street that can help us with the MVP. 1 week turnaround $230.00 for a 4 inch mock-up (hi-resolution).

Planter Concept – Drawing 2021

Rough concept draw to be sent to China for possible manufacturing opportunities

NuZn Planter – Prototyping 2023

Product planning – concept to play on shadows and light. Komorebi effect

Sent off a work order on Fiverr to create a 3D file for a simple model – 3D printed it on machine as a test. NO ELECTRICAL has been resolved yet. Purely conceptual to see if we can rapid prototype on our own.

Komorebi (lens + light test) – January 2024

I’m playing around with a 3D application, testing the distance of light from an object to a “window,” to see the effects on the shadows on the wall.

NuZn Planter – 2024 – Electrical LED Schematic (April 7)

Preliminary plan to house the LED into the top ring. We are using RGBs for exploration, however the single colour COB bulbs are more intense, but we will need a heat sink and resistors to regulate the power. At this point we will try this, and look into adding a lens to it.

NuZn Planter – Prototype 2024 (April 10)

This is the first official design and build of a prototype that is intended to work with electrical. The system consists of a TOP LED RING with 4 bulbs.

The base will be set to have the electrical run down the inside wall. This is the PLANTER BASE with water drainage for the selected plant.

NuZn Planter – Prototype 2024 (April 12)

Added self-watering feature and water tray. Overall height increased by 50mm

NuZn Planter – Prototype 2024 (April 13)

Started using a new 3D program to build prototypes. Blender 3D was too complicated to use

NuZn Planter – Prototype 2024 (April 13)

Preliminary 3D rendering is used to visualize the prototype before starting the 3D printing process at 100%. It is a super rough prototype concept. The future shape of the planter is still to be determined.

NuZn Planter – Prototype 2024 (April 14)

Starting the 3d Printing process (will be about 25-30 hours of printing for this first prototype)

NuZn Planter – Prototype 2024

Top Ring printed. Soldering 4 LED lights to fit into the holes on panel.

NuZn Planter – Prototype 2024 (April 16)

Electrical in place on top ring for testing. Ability to colour change. Awaiting the base to be printed and to assemble as a complete unit. We can then test with plants, and prepare for design adjustments.

planning to add a lens to this – and exploration of a small fan for movement

NuZn Planter – Prototype 2024 (April 17)

Super exciting! The LEDs create very cool patterns on the walls and ceiling. These are set on a BLUETOOTH app, so colours can be changed. We talked about maybe the colours can represent different moods or health sequences, with different types of leave patterns.

Still waiting for the base to be printed.

Animation Test

Sample play with animated GIF – Using a working title from before, that is easier for people to say and remember, and matches the visual concept of light and plants.

Moving Shadows Explorations – April 18

Thinking how we can move the lights to create “fascination” within moving shadows of the leaves. Maybe a rotating ring, or the LED lights are programmed with colour temperature and are slowing coming on and off within a strip to create sun movement.

NuZn Planter – Prototype 2024 (April 22)

The lens arrived in the mail. We are adjusting the top ring of the next prototype to include a convex lens. We will need to redo working drawings to accommodate these over the LED. In theory, this should create a better “focus” lighting for the light = different types of shadows
